China Not Living Up To WTO Obligations: US Official

Law360, New York (November 30, 2011, 4:29 PM EST) -- A top U.S. trade official said Wednesday that China has exercised too much state control over its economy in the 10 years since it joined the World Trade Organization and has not done enough to fulfill its commitments to the international trade body.

Michael Punke, the U.S. ambassador to the WTO, said in a speech in Geneva that trade frictions involving China can be traced to policies that unfairly protect its domestic industries and state-owned enterprises.
