Sens. Seek To Ease Pains Over Defective Chinese Drywall

Law360, New York (December 6, 2011, 3:30 PM EST) -- Recognizing the frustrations of homeowners afflicted with defective Chinese drywall, a U.S. Senate panel on Tuesday blasted insurers for using pollution exemptions to deny coverage and supported taking steps to hold Chinese companies accountable for faulty imported products.

At a Tuesday hearing, the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Insurance studied state and federal progress on tackling widespread problems with defective drywall, which can emit sulfur gases that corrode electrical wiring, piping and air conditioning units and cause bloody noses, breathing problems and headaches....
