Franken Demands Info On Smartphone Tracking Software

Law360, New York (December 1, 2011, 7:29 PM EST) -- Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., demanded on Thursday that the developer of an application that covertly tracks smartphone users’ activities explain how it collects and transmits data, saying the developer may have violated privacy laws.

Franken sent a letter to Carrier IQ Inc. asking CEO Larry Lenhart to describe what the company’s software records, whether it sends user data to third parties, and how the company stores and protects the data.
