Energy Co. PacifiCorp Will Cough Up $4M Over 2008 Outage

Law360, New York (December 2, 2011, 5:29 PM EST) -- The Federal Regulatory Commission on Thursday approved a $3.9 million civil penalty against PacifiCorp over claims by FERC and a self-regulatory organization that the utility violated reliability standards during a 2008 power outage in Utah.

Following an investigation into the outage, FERC and the North American Electric Reliability Corp. determined that PacifiCorp had violated 23 different requirements of 15 reliability standards. The U.S. government and NERC — which develops and enforces the standards in the U.S. and parts of Canada — will share settlement proceeds equally....
