GM Accepting Volt Returns After Crash Test Leads To Fire

Law360, New York (December 2, 2011, 1:30 PM EST) -- Chevy Volt owners worried over a fire that occurred in a test model weeks after a crash test can return their Volts or receive free loaner cars until the issue is resolved, a General Motors LLC spokesman told Law360 on Friday.

In June, a Volt caught fire in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration testing facility, causing physical damage but no injuries. The car had been crash-tested more than three weeks earlier, and the agency concluded the fire developed from damage to its lithium-ion battery....
