USDA Releases Trimmed Antitrust Rule For Meat Industry

Law360, New York (December 8, 2011, 4:46 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday issued a final antitrust regulation designed to give additional protections to farmers and ranchers from increasing consolidation in the meat industry, but acknowledged the rule was not as far-reaching as the agency’s original proposal.

The final rule released Thursday implements the 2008 Farm Bill provisions designed to level the playing field for livestock producers and chicken farmers under the Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration.
