USPTO Patent Processing Times Rose In 2004

Law360, New York (January 26, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- The average time it takes to process a patent application at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office continued to creep upward last year, reaching well over 27 months, statistics from the USPTO shows.

 

Last year, the pendency time of an average patent application reached 27.6 months, up from 26.7 months in 2003. The pendency time is the average time between filing and issuance or abandonment of utility, plant, and reissue applications. The average does not include design patents.
