Judge Assigns Joint Inventor To Visudyne Patent

Law360, New York (January 27, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge in Massachusetts has ruled that the founder of Canada’s QLT Inc. is a joint inventor of the patented Visudyne eye treatment.

Judge Edward Harrington of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a decision correcting the inventorship on the patent in a 2001 lawsuit filed by Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary against the Canadian company.

The judge granted QLT's summary judgment motion to add the company's founder Dr. Julia Levy as a joint inventor on the patent.
