EU Parliament Votes To Slash Phosphates In Detergent

Law360, New York (December 14, 2011, 8:13 PM EST) -- The European Parliament on Wednesday decided on measures that would almost completely ban phosphorus in washing powders and dishwasher detergents, as part of its increasing efforts to prevent harm to aquatic life around the European Union.

The parliament approved the measures, which were provisionally agreed on with the European Council, with an overwhelming majority of 631 votes for the ban and 18 against it, according to a statement by the parliament.
