Canadian Wheat Board Wants Opt-Out Bill Blocked

Law360, New York (December 14, 2011, 6:16 PM EST) -- The Canadian Wheat Board is launching legal action in an effort to halt legislation that would strip the board’s monopsony over Western Canada’s wheat and barley sales, it said Wednesday.

The legislation, Bill C-18, the Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act, would end the single-buyer system, known as Single Desk, for Canadian grains in most of Western Canada and allow farmers to opt out of the CWB and sell their grain independently.
