WTO Welcomes Russia As Newest Member

Law360, New York (December 16, 2011, 1:18 PM EST) -- The World Trade Organization admitted Russia as a member on Friday, bringing 18 years of negotiations to a close.

With a $1.9 trillion economy, Russia was the largest country that was not a member of the trade body. It first applied for membership in 1993, but saw its bid stalled by political wrangling and its 2008 invasion of neighboring Georgia.
