Smith & Nephew's $85M Win Axed In Suture Anchor IP Row

Law360, New York (December 19, 2011, 8:57 PM EST) -- An Oregon federal judge on Friday overturned an $85 million jury verdict against Arthrex Inc., wiping out a win for Smith & Nephew Inc. in a long-running patent infringement fight over suture anchors used to reattach damaged tissue and bone.

U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman granted Arthrex's Aug. 26 motion for judgment as a matter of law, and struck down a June 22 verdict in which the jurors said Arthrex should cough up nearly $67.8 million for lost profit damages and almost $17 million for reasonable...
