RPI Coating Fined $1.65M Over Plant Fire Deaths

Law360, New York (December 19, 2011, 7:47 PM EST) -- Specialty painting company RPI Coating Inc. on Monday was hit with a $1.65 million penalty and five years' probation after it pled guilty in connection to the 2007 deaths of five workers at a Colorado hydroelectric plant, the U.S. attorney's office said.

The California-based company pled guilty to five misdemeanor counts of workplace safety violations that resulted in death. Prosecutors agreed to drop a sixth count of obstruction after RPI agreed to a plea deal last week, according to court documents.
