Black & Decker, Others Sued For Dump Site Cleanup Costs

Law360, New York (December 22, 2011, 2:18 PM EST) -- The state of Rhode Island sued Ashland Inc., Black & Decker Inc., Life Technologies Corp. and four others in federal court on Wednesday, seeking cleanup costs for decades-old chemical contamination at an inactive waste disposal facility.

The suit alleges that due to their disposal of hazardous substances at the Davis Liquid Waste Superfund Site in the 1970s, the defendants are all liable under both the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and the Rhode Island Industrial Property Remediation and Reuse Act for future costs associated...
