Refiner Faces Suit Over Flood-Related Oil Spill

Law360, New York (July 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In the midst of devastating floods that destroyed homes and properties across the Midwest, petroleum refiner and nitrogen fertilizer producer Coffeyville Resources LLC experienced an oil spill which, when mixed with flood waters, created a toxic soup.

As the town of Coffeyville, Kan. struggled to clean up from the devastating flood and oil damage, a proposed class action was launched in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, asserting liability claims and accusing Coffeyville Resources of negligence and violations of the Oil Pollution Act....
