FDA Warns Of New Baby Acetaminophen Dosage Risks

Law360, New York (December 23, 2011, 3:09 PM EST) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday cautioned against potential dosing errors after some manufacturers earlier this year introduced a new concentration of 160 milligrams per 5 milliliters for liquid acetaminophen-containing pain relief medication for infants.

The new concentration is an addition to the existing versions — 80 milligrams per 0.8 milliliters and 80 milligrams per milliliter, which are more concentrated — the FDA said, noting that the new product may come with oral syringes instead of a dropper, and cautioning parents and health care...
