Black & Decker, Others To Sweep Up RI Waste Site

Law360, New York (January 3, 2012, 1:12 PM EST) -- Black & Decker Inc., Ashland Inc., Life Technologies Corp. and four others reached an agreement Thursday to resolve the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s suit for cleanup costs related to decades-old contamination at an inactive Rhode Island waste disposal facility.

Under the terms of the settlement, the defendants will implement the groundwater cleanup and will be financially responsible for 100 percent of future response costs, including oversight costs, at the Davis Liquid Waste Superfund Site in Smithfield, R.I.
