FTC Accuses Pipe Fittings Cos. Of Price-Fixing Scheme

Law360, San Diego (January 4, 2012, 5:26 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday accused three of the largest U.S. suppliers of ductile iron pipe fittings used in municipal water systems of conspiring to fix prices for the products, and settled its claims against one of the companies.

The agency alleges that McWane Inc., Star Pipe Products Ltd. and Sigma Corp. participated in an illegal scheme to set prices of imported pipe fittings that are sold in the U.S. and claims McWane improperly maintained its monopoly in the market for U.S.-made pipe fittings....
