Italian Directive Prompts EU To Drop Abertis Case

Law360, New York (July 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The ongoing standoff between the European Commission and the Italian government over the member state's move to block the merger of two toll-road operators has been diffused by Italy's submission of a set of draft rules.

The directive, submitted to the Commission by the Italian government on Wednesday, clarifies the Italian government's decision to bar the takeover of Italian roadway operator Atlantia SpA, formerly known as Autostrade, by Spanish company Abertis Infraestructuras SA.
