CFTC Approves Rules Regulating Swaps Market

Law360, New York (January 11, 2012, 6:29 PM EST) -- The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Wednesday approved rules aimed at providing further protections for the swaps market, including a rule calling for the segregation of customer collateral funds for cleared swaps.

The commission voted 4-1 to approve the segregation rule, unanimously to approve a rule requiring registration of swap dealers and major swap participants, and 4-1 to approve a rule creating standards for swap dealers and major swap participants' business conduct with counterparties, also known as external business conduct.
