2006 Code Theft May Have Exposed Older Norton Software

Law360, New York (January 17, 2012, 9:00 PM EST) -- Older versions of some of Symantec Corp.’s blockbuster Norton anti-virus software products may have become compromised in a 2006 source code theft of some of its products, the software security giant revealed Tuesday.

Symantec said on Tuesday that source code for 2006-era versions of its products, including Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, Norton Internet Security, Norton SystemWorks, and pcAnywhere, its remote-access software product, were exposed, but that Symantec customers would not likely be at increased risk for cyberattacks as a result of the theft.
