China Rips Taobao’s Inclusion On Notorious Markets List

Law360, New York (January 18, 2012, 3:26 PM EST) -- China’s Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday expressed opposition to the U.S. Trade Representative’s decision to include Taobao, one of China’s largest retail websites, on a recent list of notorious markets for piracy and counterfeiting.

Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said the ministry had “serious concern and dissatisfaction” over the presence of Taobao, which is owned by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., on the USTR's most recently compiled list of notorious markets, according to a transcript of a press briefing held Wednesday.
