Russia Threatens WTO Promises Over Jackson-Vanik Repeal

Law360, New York (January 18, 2012, 5:28 PM EST) -- Russia's foreign minister reportedly threatened Wednesday to ignore commitments the country made to the U.S. as part of its accession to the World Trade Organization if the U.S. doesn't repeal a Cold War-era law passed in response to Soviet immigration limits.

If the 1974 measure, known as the Jackson-Vanik amendment, is not removed from the books, Russia may not abide by some of the promises it made upon its accession to the WTO in mid-December, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday, the Voice of Russia reported....
