NHTSA Closes Defect Probe Into Chevy Volt

Law360, New York (January 20, 2012, 9:23 PM EST) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday closed its defect investigation into the Chevrolet Volt, stating that it does not find that the electric vehicle poses any risks to drivers' and passengers' safety.

The probe found that no defect trend existed in the vehicles and that recent modifications have reduced the potential for battery intrusion. The NHTSA added that it is not aware of any real-world Volt or other electric car crashes that have resulted in battery-related fires.
