Fines Soar In 2011 SEC Settlements

Law360, New York (January 23, 2012, 4:08 PM EST) -- The number of civil settlements reached by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in fiscal year 2011 remained largely unchanged from the number of settlements in fiscal year 2010, but individuals reaching deals paid a higher price, according to a Monday report.

The SEC reached settlements with 682 companies and individuals in 2011, up two from the 680 settlements the agency reached in 2010, NERA Economic Consulting's biannual SEC Settlement Trends: 2H11 report said.
