Bush Forms Panel To Study Import Safety Concerns

Law360, New York (July 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In response to food and consumer product safety scares in recent months, President George W. Bush on Wednesday established a panel of cabinet officials to look into ways to minimize dangers from imported goods.

The creation of the panel, known as the Interagency Working Group on Import Safety, came after a series of scares in the U.S. involving fish, seafood, toothpaste and tires from China; and the same day that a U.S. Senate Committee held a hearing over safety concerns over Chinese imports.
