FTC, CFPB Sketch Out Deal To Coordinate Enforcement

Law360, Washington (January 23, 2012, 4:52 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau laid out a framework Friday for enforcing consumer protection laws, in an agreement that makes good on promises of joint action but stops short of explicitly laying out which arenas each agency will tackle.

The FTC and CFPB have agreed to meet regularly to coordinate upcoming law enforcement, rulemaking and other activities, and to each inform the other agency before initiating an investigation or bringing an enforcement action, in hopes of preventing duplicative or conflicting enforcement...
