Court Temporarily Halts Shell's Drilling Plans

Law360 (July 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An appeals court has ordered Royal Dutch Shell Plc to temporarily suspend its oil drilling operations in Alaska’s Beaufort and Chuckchi seas until it can analyze an urgent motion for stay filed by a coalition of native groups and environmental organizations.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit said Thursday that it would resolve the matter on an expedited basis. It then scheduled 20 minutes of oral argument for each side on Aug. 14.
