South Africa Again Blocks Merger Of 2 Chemical Cos.

Law360, New York (January 24, 2012, 3:51 PM EST) -- South Africa's Competition Commission on Tuesday blocked Chemical Services Ltd. subsidiary Senmin International Pty Ltd.'s proposed acquisition of Cellulose Derivatives Pty Ltd., saying it was essentially identical to another attempted deal the commission prohibited in February 2009.

The agency cited concerns that the merger would likely result in antitrust concerns and said market dynamics have not substantially changed since it last barred the deal.
