EU Lawmakers Call For Tighter Controls On Breast Implants

Law360, New York (January 24, 2012, 6:30 PM EST) -- European lawmakers on Tuesday called for stricter controls on silicone breast implant manufacturing including "spot checks" of facilities, responding to health concerns over “low-grade” silicone used in implants made by France’s now-defunct Poly Implant Prothese.

At an Environment and Public Health Committee meeting Tuesday morning, the lawmakers examined proposed European Union legislation on medical devices to determine whether it would fully tackle health concerns over breast implants, according to a statement released by the European Parliament.
