USPTO Unveils Supplemental Exam Rules, Fees Under AIA

Law360, San Diego (January 25, 2012, 6:21 PM EST) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Wednesday released its proposed rules and fees for the supplemental examinations mandated by the recent patent reform law that are expected to reduce costly inequitable conduct claims in infringement litigation.

Under the rules, after a patent is issued by the USPTO, patent owners will have the opportunity to request a supplemental exam by the agency to consider, reconsider or correct information that is relevant to the patent.
