EU Securities Regulator Floats Rules For ETF Transparency

Law360, New York (January 30, 2012, 2:02 PM EST) -- The European Union’s securities watchdog on Monday proposed a new regulatory framework for exchange-traded funds that includes provisions for additional collateral requirements and a means for making it easier for investors to redeem their shares.

The proposals, which cover both synthetic and physical Undertakings for Collective Investment of Transferable Securities ETFs, set out future obligations for UCITS ETFs, index-tracking UCITS, efficient portfolio management techniques, total return swaps and strategy indices for UCITS, the European Securities and Markets Authority said.
