ACLU Accuses RI City's Receiver Of Abusing Power

Law360, New York (January 30, 2012, 6:31 PM EST) -- The Rhode Island branch of the American Civil Liberties Union has accused the receiver appointed to oversee the bankruptcy of Central Falls, R.I., of illegally conducting city meetings, the ACLU announced Monday.

In a letter Rhode Island ACLU Executive Director Steven Brown sent to receiver Robert Flanders Jr. on Jan. 11, Brown said that the organization was considering legal action against Flanders for violating the statute granting him authority over city business by failing to attend city meetings at which important decisions were made, illegally delegating...
