Bell Choppers' Landing Gear Infringes Eurocopter IP: Judge

Law360, New York (January 31, 2012, 7:06 PM EST) -- A Canadian federal judge ruled Monday that Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Ltd. infringed a helicopter landing gear patent held by Eurocopter SAS, ruling that Bell's landing gear was "no more than a slavish copy" of its French rival's patented technology.

In a 153-page ruling, Judge Luc Martineau of the Federal Court of Canada found that landing gear developed by Bell at the time the suit was filed infringed a Eurocopter patent, but that a redesigned version now sold by Bell does not.
