Judge Blocks Kan. Coal Plant Expansion Pending Enviro Study

Law360, New York (January 31, 2012, 8:34 PM EST) -- A Washington federal judge on Tuesday blocked expansion of a Sunflower Electric Power Corp. coal-fired power plant in Kansas until a full environmental impact study is conducted.

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan enjoined the Rural Utilities Service, a U.S. Department of Agriculture agency that helps finance electricity projects, from issuing any new approvals for the Sunflower plant expansion before a complete study on the environmental and human health impacts is finished.
