DOL To Re-Propose Child Farm Work Exemption

Law360, New York (February 1, 2012, 7:49 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor will re-propose and solicit further comments on the portion of its updates to child labor regulations for the agricultural industry that interprets the so-called parental exemption, the agency said Wednesday.

When the agency first proposed its revisions in September to the agricultural hazardous occupations orders under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which currently bar workers younger than 16 from taking on certain tasks, they had not been updated since they originally took effect in 1970.
