NY Suit Over Nonlawyer Investment In Firms On Hold

Law360, New York (February 7, 2012, 7:07 PM EST) -- A federal judge said Tuesday that he will not allow a suit challenging New York's bar on nonlawyer investment in law firms to proceed, citing a patchwork of state laws that makes the proposition unworkable.

U.S. District Judge Kaplan said that he would either dismiss a suit brought by law firm Jacoby & Meyers LLC or put the suit on hold while a state court works out some of the legal issues.
