EU Backs Lifting Duties On Energy Saving Lightbulbs

Law360, New York (July 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Overruling protests from several European companies, the European Commission has thrown its support behind removing duties currently levied on energy-saving lightbulbs imported from China.

Regulators confirmed on Thursday that the Commission would back a plan to lift anti-dumping tariffs imposed on Chinese lightbulbs designed to save energy.

If approved, the plan will remove tariffs that in some instances total as much as 60%. Unless a majority of member states vote to keep the duties in place, they will expire in October.
