GMO Salmon Needs More FDA Testing, Consumer Groups Say

Law360, New York (February 8, 2012, 3:54 PM EST) -- A genetically engineered salmon proposed for human consumption should be tested further and declared unfit for the purpose, three consumer groups said Tuesday in a petition to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Food & Water Watch, the Center for Food Safety and Consumers Union said the current FDA process for approving AquaBounty Technologies Inc.'s AquAdvantage salmon, a product created with the DNA of at least two different types of the fish, didn’t go far enough to make sure consumers wouldn’t be harmed.
