Mine Safety Regulator Centralizes Oversight Functions

Law360, New York (February 8, 2012, 9:52 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration on Wednesday announced a reorganization plan it said would centralize its oversight of certain cross-cutting, compliance-related actions, ensuring its policies intended to prevent serious mine disasters are implemented properly and effectively.

The MHSA said its newly formed Office of Assessments, Accountability, Special Enforcement and Investigations would incorporate the management, support and coordination of both routine and special assessments of mine safety, as well as agency accountability functions and special enforcement strategies.
