SEC Puts PE Firm Practices Under The Microscope

Law360, New York (February 13, 2012, 4:22 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities Exchange Commission has launched an investigation into practices by private equity firms, turning its attention to an industry that has previously escaped much regulator scrutiny, according to news reports Saturday.

As part of what the regulator characterized as an informal inquiry, the commission's Enforcement Division sent letters to a number of private equity firms in early December, looking into matters including the way the firms arrive at the value of their investments, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter....
