Fracking Disclosures Needed To Quell Public Fear: Salazar

Law360, New York (February 15, 2012, 3:15 PM EST) -- Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Wednesday told lawmakers that hydraulic fracturing has spurred public “hysteria” over environmental contamination and that industry would have to ease those fears by providing clearer disclosures of the chemicals they use in the natural-gas extraction process.

During a sometimes-tense hearing, House Natural Resources Committee members grilled Salazar over anticipated federal regulations of the process known as fracking, which involves blasting water, sand and chemicals into rock to free up natural gas.
