Toys R Us Can't Nix $18M Award Over Pool Slide Death

Law360, New York (February 17, 2012, 12:33 PM EST) -- Toys R Us Inc. failed Wednesday to overturn the $18 million punitive damages portion of a $20.6 million award that a Massachusetts state jury handed to the family of a 28-year-old woman who died after using an allegedly defective inflatable pool slide.

The October award was the largest personal injury verdict of 2011 in Massachusetts, according to attorneys representing the family of Robin Aleo. Judge Howard Whitehead rejected the toy retailer's motion for a new trial on damages.
