Patent Filings At Record High, Backlog Down

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 7:45 PM EST) -- U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Director David Kappos on Thursday told a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee that patent applications are at a record high and its backlog of applications is at the lowest level in “several years.”

Testifying before the Appropriations Committee’s Subcomittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies on the proposed fiscal 2013 budget, Kappos said the office expects to receive 533,000 patent applications by the end of the year.
