Malaysian Residents Seek To Halt $200M Ore Plant

Law360, New York (February 23, 2012, 4:41 PM EST) -- Opponents of a proposed $200 million ore processing plant in the Kuantan region of Malaysia have asked a court to delay the project and grant a review of a temporary operating license previously given to Australian rare earths mining company Lynas Corp. Ltd., the company said Thursday.

The specific claims in the suit were not immediately clear, but Malaysian residents and local lawmakers have expressed concerns that radioactive waste from the plant could contaminate groundwater and otherwise harm the local environment.
