DOL Partners With La. To Target Worker Misclassification

Law360, New York (February 23, 2012, 4:02 PM EST) -- Louisiana has become the 13th state to agree to share information and coordinate enforcement efforts with the U.S. Department of Labor to combat the growing problem of employers shortchanging workers by misclassifying them as independent contractors, the agency announced Thursday.

Nancy J. Leppink, the deputy administrator for the DOL's Wage and Hour Division, signed a memorandum of understanding with Louisiana's Workforce Commission on Thursday that will guide efforts to reduce worker misclassification, the agency said.
