General Mills Scores $2M From Supplier Of Recalled Beef

Law360, New York (February 24, 2012, 6:59 PM EST) -- General Mills Operations LLC on Friday snagged a judgment of nearly $2.2 million in a contractual fight in Minnesota with meat supplier Five Star Custom Foods Ltd. over a 2008 recall of beef used to make meatballs in Progresso soup.

Five Star had gotten the meat from Westland Meat Packing Co., which recalled 143 million pounds of beef after the Food Safety Inspection Service found the company slaughtered so-called downer cows without telling regulators. Downer cows, which cannot stand on their own, pose a higher risk...
