Court Won't End Suspension Of DOE Uranium Mining Program

Law360, New York (February 28, 2012, 3:31 PM EST) -- A Colorado federal judge on Monday largely denied a U.S. Department of Energy request to reconsider a ruling that an environmental assessment of its Uranium Lease Management Program violated federal law, upholding parts of the decision that suspended mining leases and ordered a new assessment.

U.S District Judge William J. Martinez did allow the DOE access to ULMP lands for activities that are “absolutely necessary to remediate dangers to the public health, safety and environment,” caused by land subsistence, acts of vandalism or damage from storm events....
