Identity Theft Tops FTC Consumer Complaints For 2011

Law360, New York (February 28, 2012, 5:25 PM EST) -- Identity theft was No. 1 on the Federal Trade Commission’s list of top consumer complaints for the 12th year in a row, the FTC said Tuesday.

The agency said that of more than 1.8 million complaints filed in 2011, 15 percent were for identity theft. Nearly a quarter of the total complaints related to government document fraud. Credit card fraud and phone or utility fraud were next on the list.
