Dominion To Replace 2 Coal Plants With $1B Gas Plant

Law360, New York (February 28, 2012, 6:57 PM EST) -- Virginia's largest electric utility has signed up to build a new combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station worth more than $1 billion to offset two coal plants it is retiring in the area, Dominion Virginia Power announced Tuesday.

The proposed 1,300-megawatt Brunswick County facility would replace electricity generated by two eastern Virginia coal stations that are planned to be retired in 2016, as well as help close a gap in growing electrical demands in the state, Dominion Virginia said.
